In 1934, Mandela enrolled in the Clarkebury Boarding Institute in Engcobo. He was initiated into the Xhosa and performed circumcision ritual. 

1937, Mandela enrolled in the Wesleyan college in the Eastern Cape Town of Fort Beaufort, called Healdtown.

In 1939, He enrolled for a bachelor of arts degree at the University College of Fort Hare in Alice.
