Terrifying: A Runaway Horse Almost Landed On Sleeping Toddler In Her Buggy

A near-tragedy occurred at the Dunster Country Fair in Somerset when an overexcited animal charged into the crowd which included children and pensioners in deckchairs. A sleeping toddler was hurled out of her pushchair and narrowly missed being crushed by a runaway horse at a family country fair.The horse bolted and threw its rider, who landed next to the child within inches of the horse's hooves.The sleeping child's buggy was upended and the startled toddler sent flying out of it when the rider was thrown off.The unseated rider landed next to the small child after being tipped onto the roof of a parked Land Rover.Astonishingly no-one was hurt in the dramatic incident at the country fair in Somerset on July 24...Wow! Thank God! [culled from *dailymail*]

Why Wi-Fi Routers Are Very Vulnerable To Attack

According to news.cnet.com, Jake Holcomb who's a security researcher at the Baltimore, Md. - based firm Independent Security Evaluators and lead researcher into Wi-Fi router vulnerabilities said, "the latest study continues to show that the small office and home office Wi-Fi routers are "very vulnerable to attack." #"They're not a means to protect your network and your digital assets." #"Small business and home Wi-Fi router administration often employ weak passwords, or static passwords that are the same across multiple stores, like a Starbucks. All the attacker would have to do is use one of the exploits that ISE has uncovered. The router would be compromised, including all the Web traffic flowing through it.
 Holcomb compared the problem of fixing routers to traditional PCs. "In most cases, automatic updates are enabled for Windows and Mac," he said. But, he added, "even if a router manufacturer were to implement a similar feature, most people don't log into their routers."
Basically, because people have been trained to think of the router as a set-it-and-forget-it device, and one without security flaws, it's nearly impossible to get them to update router firmware.The fix won't be an easy one, at least not logistically. "I think the solution is for routers to automatically update, and give users the ability to opt out of it," Holcomb said. While TP-Link fixed all the vulnerabilities that ISE reported to it, D-Link has never responded. And Linksys, he said, chose not to repair many of the vulnerabilities reported to it.

Tech. News: Twitter Updates Its Rules For Users

Following uproar and arrests in the United Kingdom over rape and bomb threats, and day before a scheduled boycott of the service, Twitter had now updated its rules for users. According to the report, more staff would be added to police abusive tweets.
Read a blog post sent by Twitter U.K. this morning, that announces the rules and staffing changes. Tony Wang, Twitter U.K. General Manager, had confirmed that the changes were being made worldwide. He said,"I personally apologize to the women who have experienced abuse on Twitter and for what they have gone through," Wang wrote in a series of follow-up tweets. "The abuse they've received is simply not acceptable. It's not acceptable in the real world, and it's not acceptable on Twitter...There is more we can and will be doing to protect our users against abuse. That is our commitment."
Targeted Abuse: You may not engage in targeted abuse or harassment. Some of the factors that we take into account when determining what conduct is considered to be targeted abuse or harassment are:
  • ♦ if you are sending messages to a user from multiple accounts;
  • ♦ if the sole purpose of your account is to send abusive messages to others;
  • ♦ if the reported behavior is one-sided or includes threats.

PDP Versus APC

[Culled from *National Mirror*], against the backdrop that the APC is presently shopping for presidential materials, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, yesterday said, [“In view of all these, it is clearly evident that the APC cannot and will not be an alternative to the PDP. “This fact is further reinforced by the fact that even its leadership parades politically expired, analogue and yesterday’s men, including the likes of Bisi Akande, Tom Ikimi, Bello Masari, Muhammad Buhari, Audu Ogbeh, Bashir Tofa and their likes who do not promise any hope for today’s Nigeria and, therefore, cannot bring any meaningful change to the polity.” “The ACN particularly is reputed to always outsource its presidential candidate to the PDP. It is not surprising, therefore, that in the new party’s national executive, six of its 11 members, which is about 60 per cent were former chieftains of the PDP. "The real question is whether this is APC or PDP 2? This is the poser Nigerians will resolve as time goes on.” “They are ideologically ill-defined and seem to have come together for only one purpose, which is to grab power from the PDP and united on one sentiment which is their peculiar hatred for the person of President Goodluck Jonathan. “Is there an offence in being a President from a minority tribe? Those who cooperate with them from the North are not true mainstream northern politicians but rather anarchists and irredentists who pursue political power based purely on ethnic sentiments. “From the first day of the Jonathan presidency, these people have tried all methods to suffocate his administration and make it impossible for him to govern.
“Immediately the President was sworn in, he was made to contend with major post-election violence unprecedented in our political history. This paved the way for the escalation of the Boko Haram insurgency also to the level that was totally and absolutely unimaginable; making previous episodes like the Maitatsine riots and similar previous sectarian violence in the North look like a child’s play. “It is to the glory of God, tenacity of purpose and ingenious administrative capacity of Goodluck Jonathan that, in spite of these overwhelming and daunting security crises, the administration still records a most distinguished performance in terms of delivering remarkable dividends of democracy ever recorded in the history of Nigeria. “Isn’t it surprising too that since their coming together, Nigerians are yet to know what the APC stands for in terms of definite programmatic agenda? What do they have that is better than the PDP? “They have no official manifestoes rather what we hear from one leader is a sharp contradiction from what we hear from another. “For example, the leading ideologue of the APC in the North, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, delivered a lecture in London where he spoke unambiguously against the much talked about restructuring of the Nigerian federation, resource control, sovereign national conference and other core demands of the defunct ACN. “The other leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, went to a similar event recently and ingeniously listed out their proposed programmes on power, agriculture and rail transportation which are not in any way different from the contents of the Transformation Agenda of the PDP.”]

 Here is National Publicity Secretary of the APC's,  Lai Mohammed, reaction to Dr. Okupe'...: [“They are so worried and jittery by the emergence on the APC. The PDP is still stunned by the emergence of the party. They are afraid. It is just an attempt to cover up their fear. In the first place, who in the APC is as expired as Tony Anenih? Who is as expired as Bamanga Tukur? “They have nothing more to say and I think they should leave that decision to Nigerians to decide which party parades expired politicians. “I can tell you that they are afraid already. First they said the APC was a party of Muslims, and then they said they are not moved by the party’s registration, now they are singing the expired politicians’ tune. “We would not banter words with them, rather we will continue to mobilize membership across the country.”]..... Lol!

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar Protests Plans To Run Him Out Of PDP

The former Vice President, seems not to be happy about what he regarded as plans to run him out of the People's Democratic Party, PDP. His letter to PDP's National Chairman, Alhaji Bamaga Tukur, dated July 11, which was personally signed by him tells it all:
 ["My attention has been drawn to a news report published… Monday July 8, 2013. In the said report, the delegates list for the Special National Convention submitted by Adamawa State PDP chapter did not contain my name and further inquiries at the PDP National Secretariat also confirmed same. After waiting in vain for a public response from the party to correct or refute the news report, “I have decided to draw your attention to this mistake”. The 53rd NEC meeting of the PDP held on September 15, 2010 gave me a waiver, it was the waiver which allowed me to participate in the 2011 presidential primaries of the party. My return to PDP predated amendment of the party’s constitution of 2012. I considered the omission of my name on the delegates’ list as a mistake, as it contravened Section 32, sub-section 1 (a) of the party’s constitution which stated that the membership of the party’s BoT shall consist of “all past and serving Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who held or hold the respective posts as members of the party and who are still members of the party”. I therefore look forward for a correction and restitution of my right to attend the forthcoming Special National Convention of our great party and also membership of the Board of Trustees.”] [culled from *National Mirror*]
